Quantification and characterization of water within drug-eluting beads

چکیده
This work describes the analysis and characterisation of polyvinylalcohol (PVA)-based hydrogel polymer beads, specifically focussing on quantitative qualitative aspects water within such beads in absence presence three drugs; doxorubicin irinotecan (already utilised as medicines) finally, imipramine (for comparison). Using optical microscopy size increasing amounts decreased (121–79 μm) was displaced, demonstrating drug-bead interactions. Thermogravimetric (TGA) permitted determination total content ranging from alone that contained 96.8% water, through to formulated with only 91.7% water. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) investigate present their structures, separated into bound (non-freezing), loosely unbound forms. For (25 mg/mL) there little impact relative ratio bound, free structure. higher drug loaded a distinct decrease overall seen. study confirms ability TGA DSC characterise differing types indicates changes these drugs. It is clearly beneficial states systems better understand loading release context cancer treatment.

متن کاملConventional vs drug-eluting beads transarterial chemoembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma
Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the current standard of therapy for patients with intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) according to the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer classification. The concept of conventional TACE (cTACE) is the selective obstruction of tumor-feeding artery by injection of chemotherapeutic agents, leading to ischemic necrosis of the target tumor via cyto...
متن کاملTransarterial chemoembolization with drug-eluting beads in hepatocellular carcinoma
Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a widely used standard treatment for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who are not suitable candidates for curative treatments. The rationale for TACE is that intra-arterial chemotherapy using lipiodol and chemotherapeutic agents, followed by selective vascular embolization, results in a strong cytotoxic effect as well as ischemia (convention...
